Detailed Description for TC16-161T+

Product Overview

TC16-161T+ is a 1:16 core-and-wire transformer specified from 600 kHz to 160 MHz. The high impedance ratio is intended for coupling a 50 Ω single-ended path to a much higher-impedance balanced stage, producing a substantially different voltage and current relationship than common 1:1 or 1:4 baluns.

The part uses the AT224-1A package and operates from -40°C to +85°C. Its band covers low-frequency IF, HF and lower-VHF applications. Since the ratio is 1:16, correct termination is especially important: an alternative with the same frequency endpoints but a different ratio would alter matching, signal amplitude and winding current.

Key Features

  • Manufacturer: Mini-Circuits
  • Part Number: TC16-161T+
  • Product Category: RF Balun / RF Transformer
  • Device Type: high-ratio 1:16 core-and-wire RF transformer
  • Frequency Range: 0.6 MHz to 160 MHz
  • System / Port Impedance: 50 Ω
  • Impedance Ratio: 1:16
  • Package / Case: AT224-1A, plastic base with leads
  • Mounting Type: Surface mount
  • Pin Configuration: A
  • Operating Temperature: -40°C to +85°C

Applications

  • High-impedance balanced receiver and detector inputs
  • HF/VHF transformer-coupled amplifier stages
  • Instrumentation and matching networks requiring a 1:16 ratio

Quality & Sourcing

Antrex Electronics can source TC16-161T+ for established RF and instrumentation BOMs. For these high-ratio or multi-winding transformers, approval should include winding topology, ratio, pin configuration, frequency response and exact case style because a visually similar unity-ratio balun will not reproduce the circuit behavior.
