SIM800H is a SIMCom quad-band GSM/GPRS wireless communication module designed for compact M2M, IoT and embedded applications. It supports GSM 850, EGSM 900, DCS 1800 and PCS 1900MHz operation, GPRS multislot Class 12, Bluetooth, FM radio, audio, USB and serial interfaces. With a compact 17.8 × 15.8 × 2.4mm LGA package and low-power sleep mode, it is suitable for trackers, telemetry equipment, portable terminals, industrial monitoring and legacy 2G communication systems.

Design & Selection Considerations

SIM800H requires a stable 3.4V to 4.4V supply capable of supporting high current peaks during GSM transmission bursts. Designers should provide adequate bulk and bypass capacitance close to the VBAT pins and minimize supply-path resistance to prevent voltage drop during RF transmission. Antenna impedance, RF layout, SIM interface protection, UART voltage levels and ESD protection should also be considered carefully. Since SIM800H relies on 2G GSM/GPRS networks, designers should confirm that compatible cellular service remains available in the intended deployment region before selecting the module for new designs.
