About Data Acquisition

Data acquisition ICs capture, convert or generate analog signals for digital processing and control. The category includes analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), digital-to-analog converters (DACs), combined converters and integrated acquisition systems with multiplexers, references or signal conditioning. They are used with sensors and transducers in industrial measurement, instrumentation, medical equipment, motor control, communications, automated test and data logging.

Choose the converter direction and architecture from the signal bandwidth, latency and accuracy requirements. For ADCs, compare resolution, sample rate, input type and range, channel count, SNR, ENOB, INL, reference and acquisition time; also ensure the source can settle the sampling input. For DACs, check resolution, update rate, output range and type, settling time, glitch energy and load drive. Verify digital interface, clocking, reference arrangement, supply rails, power, package, temperature grade and calibration needs for the complete signal chain.
