About Passive Components

Passive components shape, store, filter, tune and transfer electrical energy or signals without providing active gain. The Antrex Passive Components category includes capacitors; inductors, chokes and coils; crystals, oscillators and resonators; filters; potentiometers and variable resistors; and audio or signal transformers. These product families are fundamental to power conversion, decoupling, timing, EMI suppression, impedance matching, signal conditioning and analog adjustment in industrial electronics, communications equipment, automotive systems, consumer products, power supplies and embedded hardware.

Choose the subcategory according to the circuit function first. For capacitors, compare capacitance, rated voltage, dielectric technology, tolerance, ESR, ripple current, temperature and lifetime. For inductors, chokes and coils, verify inductance, DC resistance, saturation or rated current, core material, self-resonant frequency and shielding. Timing components require the correct frequency, tolerance or stability, load capacitance, drive level, supply voltage and package. Filters should be matched by filter type, cutoff or center frequency, impedance, insertion loss, attenuation, bandwidth and current or power handling. Potentiometers and variable resistors require the correct resistance value, taper, power rating, adjustment style, mechanical life and mounting geometry.
