About GPS/GNSS Module

GPS/GNSS modules provide satellite-based positioning, navigation and timing functions for embedded systems. Depending on the device, they may support GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS and SBAS, with single- or multi-constellation and single- or multi-frequency reception. Many modules integrate the RF front end, baseband processor, LNA, SAW filtering, RTC and protocol firmware, while some also support dead reckoning, precise timing, raw measurements or integrated antenna options. Typical applications include asset tracking, telematics, industrial equipment, drones, navigation devices, smart meters and timing systems.

Select by supported constellations and frequency bands, required position accuracy, update rate, sensitivity and time-to-first-fix. Confirm whether the application needs standard positioning, high-dynamic tracking, dead reckoning, timing output or raw GNSS measurements. Check supply voltage, current consumption, backup supply, host interfaces such as UART, I²C, SPI or USB, and supported protocols including NMEA or manufacturer-specific binary messages. RF design is critical: verify antenna type, active-antenna bias, LNA gain, impedance, antenna connector or RF pad and required keep-out area. Also confirm package, operating temperature, firmware version, assistance-data support and regulatory constraints. Replacement modules should be matched by constellation set, frequency support, interface protocol, pinout, RF layout and firmware behavior; similar dimensions do not guarantee drop-in compatibility.
