About Solid State Relays (SSR)

Solid state relays (SSR) switch electrical loads using semiconductor devices rather than moving contacts. They offer silent operation, fast response, long switching life and resistance to mechanical vibration. Products include AC- and DC-output types, zero-cross and random-turn-on versions, single- and multipole configurations, and PCB, panel or DIN-rail packages for industrial controls, heaters, lighting, test equipment and automation systems.

Select an SSR by matching the input control voltage and current, output type, load voltage, continuous load current and required isolation rating. For AC loads, choose between zero-cross switching for reduced noise and random turn-on for phase control or inductive timing needs. Review on-state voltage drop, off-state leakage, minimum load current, surge capability and switching speed. The rated current often assumes a specified heat sink and ambient temperature, so verify thermal resistance, derating curves and mounting requirements. Also confirm load type, snubber or protection needs, safety approvals, terminal style and complete manufacturer part number before procurement.
