Relays use an electrical control signal to open or close isolated contacts in signal, power and control circuits. Electromechanical designs energize a coil to move an armature, while latching types retain their state after the drive pulse. Available products include PCB, plug-in and panel-mounted signal or power relays, reed relays, safety relays and related I/O assemblies. They are used in appliances, industrial controls, building systems, communications, vehicles and test equipment.

Select a relay by coil type and rated voltage, contact arrangement, number of poles and required mounting. Match the contact rating to the actual switching voltage, current and load type; resistive, inductive, motor, lamp and capacitive loads can have very different inrush and breaking demands. Check minimum switching load, operate and release voltage, coil power, isolation, contact resistance, switching time and mechanical versus electrical endurance. Also confirm temperature derating, sealing or washability, socket compatibility and applicable approvals. Similar pinouts do not guarantee equivalent load life or safety performance.
