Switches provide manual, mechanical or position-dependent control of electrical circuits and are used for configuration, operator input, safety interlocking and load switching. Choose the switch family according to the control function and actuator mechanism first. DIP switches are typically selected by position count, pole arrangement, actuator style, pitch and PCB mounting for configuration settings. Interlock and limit switches require attention to actuator geometry, operating point, travel, positive-opening behavior, contact sequence, mounting and mechanical life. Pushbutton, slide, tactile and toggle switches should be matched by pole/throw configuration, momentary or maintained action, number of positions, operating force, travel and user-interface requirements. Across all switch types, verify contact voltage and current for the actual resistive, inductive, lamp or motor load, plus contact resistance, insulation resistance, dielectric strength and electrical life. Mechanical factors include panel cutout or PCB footprint, terminal style, actuator dimensions, sealing, IP rating, vibration, temperature and required safety approvals. For illuminated models, also confirm LED voltage, color and polarity. Replacement parts should be matched by switching function, contact sequence, actuator mechanics, mounting dimensions and electrical ratings rather than by external appearance alone.
